Infant
Our Infants Program began 7 years ago when the director's grandson was a newborn and the desire for him to have a consistent experience from the start. We made the infant classroom more home-like and with the same sense of order and motives for activity as in the other classrooms to help the child orient to the environment and become independent.
Motives for language and social development occur throughout the day as the older toddlers interact with the younger infants. Work is play in the early years and very low shelves with materials and individual chairs/ tables as well as a carpeted area provide opportunities for independent "work" and socialization. The predictability of the environment is ensured by having the same staff from the start of the day to the end the day.
